ALBANY – Margaret J. Smith, 92, of Albany, died Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at the home of her son. Mrs. Smith was born in Norfolk, VA, the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Ellen Hartnett Garfield. She was raised in Portsmouth, NH and Albany, where she lived most of her life. She was a graduate of Philip Schuyler High School, and was an insurance broker for over 65 years. She was employed at the Connors and Reddy, E.J. Dignum & Sons insurance firms for many years. She was a member of the Insurance Women of North America, and was past president of the St. James Church Rosary Society. She also was a communicant of St. Margaret Mary’s Church in Albany for over 40 years, and a member of the church senior citizens group, and a member of the Colonie Village Seniors.
Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her former husband Arthur F. Smith, Sr. in 1982. She is survived by her sons Michael F. Smith (Lynn) of Loudonville, Arthur F. Smith, Jr. (Jo-Ann) of Halfmoon, Henry G. Smith (Caroline J.) of Guilderland, and David B. Smith (Alicia) of Menands; her grandchildren Meghan Baltich (Matthew), Brian P. Smith (Sarah), Kristen Staikos (John), Mark Smith (Vanessa), and Jessica, Sean, Kelsey, Lauren and Madison Smith; her great grandchildren Katie Baltich, Connor and Hannah Smith, Alex, Sophia and Chloe Staikos, and Donovan and Brady Smith; and by four nephews and one niece. She was predeceased by her sister Jean Plummer and her grandson Kevin M. Smith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 9:30 in All Saints Catholic Church (formerly St. Margaret Mary’s Church), Homestead St., Albany. ALBANY – Doris E. Egan Breyette, 88, of Albany, died Monday, December 13, 2010 at her home. Mrs. Breyette was born in Lowell, MA, the daughter of the late John W. Egan and Doris E. MacKenney Egan, and was raised in Chazy and Dannemora, NY. She lived for many years in Morrisonville, NY before moving to Albany in 1982. She was employed by Bell Aircraft in Buffalo during World War II as a P-39 production inspector, and later was employed for many years by the Clinton County Dept. of Social Services. She served as a Cub Scout den mother, and was a communicant of St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville, and St. Margaret Mary’s and All Saints Catholic Churches in Albany.
Mrs. Breyette was predeceased by her husband Oril Breyette, Jr., and her son Richard Breyette. She is survived by her sons Reg Breyette (Linda) and Gary Breyette of Morrisonville, and Gene Breyette (Brenda) of Schoharie; her sister Frances Benson of Albany; her brothers John Egan (Virginia) and Richard Egan (Frances) of Albany; her grandchildren Angela Jorczak (Phil), Shane Breyette (Sabrina), and Eric, Todd, Amanda, Bethany, Kelly and Renee Breyette; her great grandchildren Shelbi, Baylee, Kylee and Coleton; her great great granddaughter Amelia; and by many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her sisters Esther Carrier, Ruth Shambo, and Elinor and Alice Egan.

SOUTH BETHLEHEM – Paul F. Rogan, 59, of South Bethlehem, passed away suddenly at St. Peter’s Hospital after a short illness. Born in Manchester, NH, he grew up in Boston, MA and served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Paul was a truck driver for 35 years, owning his own company and also working for Langer Transport in Jersey City, NJ. Paul was an active member of the Coxsackie Yacht Club, and had a passion for being on his boat – relaxing.
Paul was predeceased by his parents Florence and Martin, and a brother Stephen. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend Sandy; his children Paul Jr. and Liz Marie both of Pennsylvania; his step children Deborah Carmel (Guy) of So. Bethlehem and Kristen Rexford of Ravena; and his grandchildren Jessica Lyn and Joceline “Peanut” Carmel of So. Bethlehem. Paul will also be greatly missed by his feline friends.

ALBANY – Helen M. Triolo Mirabile, 86, of Albany, died peacefully Tuesday, December 7, 2010 after a long illness while surrounded by her loving family at her home. Born in Albany on April 16, 1924 to the late Santo and Carmela Triolo, she was a lifelong resident of Albany. She was a graduate of Vincentian Institute, class of 1941, and worked in the claims department of Preferred Accident Insurance Co. for several years, and then at the Internal Revenue Service as an examiner. She then transferred to the VA Hospital where she served as a Ward Secretary and secretary trainer. After her marriage to Anthony Mirabile in 1953, she left the VA Hospital to raise a family. She was later employed by Lake Electronic Service as a Warranty Administrator and Corporate Secretary. She served as a board member of the Italian American Community Center and worked on many committees. She was a communicant of St. Margaret Mary’s Church where she served as Secretary and President of the Senior Citizens Group. She also enjoyed watching Yankees baseball.
Mrs. Mirabile is survived by her husband Anthony J. Mirabile; her children Andrew Mirabile, Joanne DiFrancesco (Robert), Julie Miller (Louis), and Joseph Mirabile; her grandchildren Jennifer Biski (Joseph), Gregory and Nicholas Miller, and Nicole and Sarah DiFrancesco; her sisters Vera Rappazzo, Sarina Nagi, and Cecilia Rigosu (Vincent); her brother Joseph Triolo (Ann); and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Vincent Triolo.
The family wishes to thank Juanita, Floris and Lisa Peters for the dedication and wonderful care they provided Helen during her illness, and to Community Hospice, most particularly Nina Lake for her compassion and care at this difficult time.

ALBANY – Joseph Paul Scalzo fell asleep in death on Saturday, December 4, 2010. Born August 27, 1927 to Doris LaCross and Joseph Scalzo, Sr., he attended Cathedral Academy and served as an altar boy at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception under Father Taft. Joe proudly served his country in World War II earning both the American Campaign and World War II Victory Medals. He later pursued a career in the dental field working for Capital Dental Supply, Healthco Dental and Meer Dental as service manager.
Joe was the beloved husband of June Vecchia Scalzo; adored father of Amanda Scalzo (Jesse Hyler), and loving grandfather of Gianna Marie Scalzo. He is also survived by his devoted stepchildren Louis Vecchia (Helene), Paul Vecchia (Erin), Janet Hawthorne (Richard). He is grandpa to Chris Vecchia (Jonafe), Anthony Vecchia, and Taylor Vecchia; and great grandfather to Cailey Vecchia.
Joe’s family would like to than Dr. William Tetreault of Capital Care for the outstanding medical care and concern he’s given Joe for so many years, the staff at St. Peter’s Hospital and the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s where Joe was lovingly cared for in his final days.

SLINGERLANDS – Helen M. Hughes, 92, of Marie Rose Manor, Slingerlands, died Friday, December 3, 2010 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, Guilderland. Mrs. Hughes was born in Boston, and lived there all her life until moving to Slingerlands seven years ago. She was employed by the New England Telephone Co. in Boston for many years, and was a member of The Grotto of Springfield, MA.
Mrs. Hughes was predeceased by her husband Peter F. Hughes in 1993. She is survived by her daughter Helen Mary DeSimone and her son in law Rocco DeSimone of Athens, NY; and by her granddaughter Deanna DeSimone, graduate of the Academy of the Holy Names.

Frieda Uellenberg

ALBANY – Frieda Uellenberg, 89, of Albany passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, after a short and patiently endured illness. Born in 1921 in Steinwiesen, Germany, Frieda immigrated to the United States in 1951. She worked for Tobin Packing Co. until its closing in 1981. She also was a communicant of All Saints Catholic Church and the former Holy Cross Church in Albany, and a member of the Holy Cross Seniors.
Frieda was the loving wife of 48 years of the late Erich Uellenberg who predeceased her in 2003. She was the dear mother of Manfred Simon and his wife Marianne, the beloved Oma of Jennifer (Christopher) Radnich and the proud Ur-Oma of Morgan Radnich. She is also survived by her sisters Lanie Corrine of Albany and Marga Wachter of Kronach, Germany. Also surviving are a brother in law, sister in law and several nieces and nephews in Germany.
