Dominic A. Coluccio

ALBANY – Dominic A. Coluccio, 81, of Albany, died Sunday, April 25, 2010 in the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital.  Mr. Coluccio was born November 30, 1928 in Locri, Reggio Calabria, Italy, the son of Joseph and Maria Greco Coluccio.  He was employed as a school teacher in Italy until moving to the U.S. in 1951.  He was employed by the Fuller Brush Co. as a foreman, and later was employed by the New York Lottery, a job which took him around the state.  He was a communicant of St. Margaret Mary’s Church for many years.

Mr. Coluccio is survived by his beloved wife Frances Farrugia Coluccio; his children Marie Coluccio, Loretta Ackerman, Joseph Coluccio (Susan), Frank Coluccio (Joy), Roseanne Coluccio, and Tina Connell (Robert); his grandchildren Hannah Ackerman, Christina, Sara, and Katherine Coluccio, Olivia Hager, Isabella and Robert Connell, and Terri Miller (Steven); his great granddaughter Jordan Miller; his stepsister Rosemery Cuzdey (Larry); his sister in law Mary Jane Ryan; and by many cousins, Godchildren, nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his stepsister Albinia Primono, and his stepbrothers Frank Bolognino and James Bolognino.

The family would like to extend special thanks to all of the fine doctors who treated Dominic during his many years of illness, and to the nurses and staff of the Hospice Inn for their fine care.

Ida M. Gaudio

ALBANY – Ida M. Gaudio, 96, of Albany, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at St. Peter’s Hospital.  Mrs. Gaudio was born in Italy, but came to the United States in the late 1930’s, settling first in Hudson, NY, then Albany.  She was employed for many years by Cotrell & Leonard in Albany, and was a communicant for many years of the former St. Margaret Mary’s Church in Albany.

Mrs. Gaudio was predeceased by her husband Michele Gaudio.  She is survived by her sons Pasquale “Patsy” Gaudio of Albany and Lake Havasu City, AZ, Angelo M. Gaudio (Roberta) of Albany, and Michael Gaudio (Donna) of Ocala, FL; her grandchildren Michael Gaudio (Melissa), Angelo S. Gaudio, Ida Marie LaChance (Joseph), Michael Gaudio, Marcia Rousseau (Josh), Christine Gaudio and Nicholas Gaudio (Melissa); and by three great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.

Eugenia Podgorski

ALBANY – Eugenia Podgorski entered into eternal life on Tuesday, April 13,2010 after a long illness.  Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, She was the daughter of John Gazda and Anastasia Drabowska Gazda.  She graduated from Coughlin High School and worked for many years at Macy’s as a “Red Flower”.  She was a daily communicant of All Saints Catholic Church (formerly St. Margaret Mary’s Church) for many years. Eugenia was also active for several years in the Christian Brothers Academy Mother’s Association.

Eugenia was the matriarch of her family and took great pride in her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed attending her children’s school activities, particularly their football, basketball, and baseball games and their track meets.  In later years she attended her grandchildren’s school activities, their baseball and basketball games.  She was the greatest fan and supporter of her late husband, children and grandchildren and was a fierce competitor in her own right.  She relished spending time with her family.  She was a kind, generous and devoted, wife, mother, sister, daughter and “Nana”, who greatly loved her family.  She was a proud, modest and independent woman who was strong in her Catholic faith.

She was married in 1946 to her Football All American husband, Edward J. Podgorski, who predeceased her in 1985. While Ed’s work as a mining engineer took the family to Texas, Colorado and Albany and kept him on the road for many years, Eugenia managed their household and served as the “rock” of the family.

Eugenia is survived by her son, Michael John Podgorski (Susan) of Guilderland, N.Y.; her daughter, Patricia Ann Podgorski (Donald Zee) of Slingerlands, NY; her three beloved grandchildren, Amanda Marie Podgorski, Gregory Edward Podgorski and Christine Eugenia Podgorski; her niece Barbara A. Albi and three grand-nephews James, Stephen and Christopher Albi of Bangor, PA; and her very dear friend Jenny Draggotta of Colonie.  She was also predeceased by her beloved son Edward J. (“EJ”) Podgorski, Jr., her sister Anne Giebus and her brother Michael Gazda.

The Podgorski family expresses it’s profound gratitude to the caregivers who took wonderful care of her for the last two years and who helped to keep her at home, particularly, Kathleen De Felice, Joy Leslie, Rita Meyers and Chris McAllister.  The family also appreciates all the care and help from Community Hospice of Albany, particularly, Becky, Shanna and Sally.

Marion R. Gregg

ALBANY – Marion R. Gregg, 89, of Albany, died Friday, April 2, 2010 in the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital.  Marion was born November 28,1920 in London of American parentage to Francis Gregg and Maude Burns. She worked twelve years for the Engineer’s Department with the British Government.  Between the years of 1954 and 1960 she worked in the banking industry at the First Trust in Albany, New York.

In January, 1960, Marion joined the Mill Hill Missionary community- St. Joseph’s Missionary Society- in Albany, New York as a volunteer and took her Temporary Oath in 1961. Marion was received into the Society as a life member on March 19, 1972. She remained the sole life member of the Society until her death.

Marion was a secretary to the Regional Administrator of the North American Region for 23 years. She traveled to Kenya in 1983. On her return from Africa, she was appointed to the British Region to work as part of the back-up team at St. Joseph’s Mission Center, Burn Hill. At the end of April 1988, Marion returned to Albany for retirement.

Marion is survived by her beloved nephew Keith Herriet, his wife Pauline, their children Michaela, Greg and Daniel and their grandchildren Lucy, Isabel, Daisey, Emilia, Joseph, Lewis and Benjamin, all of whom reside in England.

On her journey to the Lord, Marion was supported with prayers and visits from many of her friends and her church community of Christ the King which exemplified the true meaning of the Body of Christ.  A heartfelt thank you to Mary Jean Willis, her caregiver and dear friend, to Dr. Jeffrey Perkins, and to all the nurses, social workers and staff at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital.

Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Wednesday morning at 9:00, and from there to Christ the King Church, Sumter Ave., Guilderland at 10:00.  Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. The parish family of Christ the King Church will gather at 5:30 pm Tuesday for a service of prayer and remembrance.  All are welcome.   Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.  In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mill Hill Missionaries, 222 W.
